Class 1 – Reception and Year 1
Welcome back to the New year! We hope you all had a fantastic Christmas break, ready for the new term ahead. Topic This term we are learning about Frozen Worlds, all things Arctic and Antarctic.
We are going to be discovering lots of exciting things about the coldest places on our planet – including where they are, which animals live there, and the amazing people who have explored them. During the term please look out for key dates and reminders in our whole school newsletter as this is our main method of contact.
Online learning journeys: We are pleased to announce that we are investing in online learning journeys in which we will be recording key observations on your children’s learning, more exciting news on this to follow shortly. Show and tell/homework: Please see the homework map for details on Class 1 homework this term. Pre-school and Class 1 Children are welcome to also bring in the occasional topic related show and tell items to share in class on a Friday.
Class 1 Niners Across the school we have our Niners system based on practising Maths targets, spellings and reading 3 times a week at home – this can be recorded in the homework/reading diaries. In class 1 these are introduced across the year.
This term… Reception children will be expected to read and to practice their spellings 3 times a week. Spellings will be sent home on Fridays, ready to be tested the following Friday. These will include words linked to their phonics as well as some red tricky words which can’t be sounded out using phonics. Year 1 children will be expected to read, practice their spellings and their maths targets 3 times a week. Maths targets will be set this term and can be practiced on Numbots which year 1 should all have a login for. Reading and the school library: Reading is such an important skill, we really do appreciate any extra support you can give at home. Please continue to read their books from school, as well as the books from our Bookworm challenge list (also available to borrow from class), their school library books (we will aim to change these once a week), a
Please ensure that all your child’s clothes and belongings (e.g. water bottles) are labelled clearly with their names. This helps us to return items to their correct owners.
