Class 2

Class 2 - Years 1 and 2

Happy New Year and a warm welcome back to Term 3! We hope that you all had a wonderful Christmas break and may we take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy and healthy 2020.

This term our topic will be ‘’Life in the Freezer.’ Through this interesting topic we will be exploring all things artic, from what life is like in Antarctica, polar animals to the artic explorer, Sir Ernest Shackleton. It promises to be a fascinating topic and as always if you have anything you think will be of interest to us do come and let us know.

We will also be ensuring coverage of other curriculum subjects such as Computing, RE and Music. Please see the curriculum map for more information. I am pleased to say that Mrs Simpkins and Mr Miller will continue to be part of the Class 2 teaching team this term.

This term we will continue to do PE outdoors on a Thursday afternoon (with Mrs Simpkins) and a Friday afternoon with Mr Miller so please ensure the children have all of their labelled kit in school every day.

Spellings will continue in the way that they have been in Class 2; handed out on a Monday, to be tested the following Monday. This term they will start being sent home the week of the 13th January and the last week being Monday 27th January to be tested on Monday 3rd February.

Just a little reminder that reading diaries will be monitored and that it’s so important that the children have the opportunity to read aloud to practise their word recognition, fluency and also a big focus in Year 1 & 2 is reading comprehension; reading for understanding and of course, pleasure.

Do look out for a key stage visit letter coming soon – it promises to be an exciting visit!

We are very aware that sometimes parents need to get a message to us or have a quick query and we very much believe in an ‘open door’ policy so please come and see us if me if this is the case. If a matter requires more time then booking a separate appointment with one of us, perhaps after school, is the best idea. We will end by saying a big thank you for your ongoing support.

Here’s to a fabulous term!
